Cutting Board Care
Made to be used. Cared for to last. A few simple habits help keep your wooden cutting board or serving board looking its best. Follow any care instructions supplied with your individual piece.
How should I wash my board?
Wash by hand with warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft sponge. Rinse briefly and towel dry right away. Stand it on its edge to finish drying, with air reaching both sides.
Can it go in the dishwasher?
No. Never put a wooden board in the dishwasher, soak it in the sink, or leave it sitting in water. Excess moisture and heat can damage the wood and glue joints.
When should I oil it?
For an oil-finished board, condition it when the surface starts to look or feel dry. Use food-grade cutting board mineral oil or a conditioner labeled for food-contact wood. Apply to a clean, fully dry board, including the edges, following the care product instructions. Let it absorb, then wipe away excess.
Avoid cooking oils, which can become rancid. Unsure about your board’s finish? Ask us before applying anything.
How should I store it?
Store the board dry, with airflow around both faces. Keep it away from direct heat, prolonged direct sunlight, and damp towels. Do not use it as a trivet for hot pots or pans.
Can I cut on a serving or engraved board?
Check the product listing for its intended use. Decorative and engraved pieces may need different handling from a working cutting board. Contact us if you are unsure which surface to use.
